Minnesota Sands Appeals Frac Sand Mining Ban

Minnesota Sands is not done challenging the Winona County, Minn., frac sand mining ban in court. Winona County District Court Judge Mary Leahy ruled last November to uphold the county's ban. Last week, the frac sand operator appealed the case to the Minnesota Court of Appeals, according to the Winona Post.

Badger Mining Corp. Releases Badger Tundra

Badger Mining Corp. (BMC) announced the release of Badger Tundra, a first-of-its-kind, activator-free, low-temperature resin coated Northern White sand that works in conditions as low as 70 degrees Fahrenheit. While competitor's products either crumble under the pressure, fail to generate consistent bond strength at low temperatures, or set up prematurely, BMC's Badger Tundra sets the benchmark in activator-free, low-temperature proppant flowback solutions, according to the company.

Smart Sand Completes Unit-Train-Capable Rail Facility

Smart Sand Inc. announced that it has completed construction of its unit-train-capable rail facility served by the Union Pacific Railroad in Byron Township, Wis. The company moved its first unit train from the expanded site via the Union Pacific Railroad on Dec. 26, 2017.

Unimin to Modernize Blue Mountain Facility

Unimin Canada announced that it will make a multi-million-dollar investment in the modernization of the company’s mining and manufacturing operations at Blue Mountain in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario. When completed, the new operation will further improve the site’s environmental footprint and support continued mining, manufacturing and employment at the facility for many more decades.
