U.S. Concrete Aggregates Sales Up 8.3 Percent

U.S. Concrete Inc. reported results for the quarter ended June 30, 2017. In the second quarter of 2017, the company reported a net loss of $2.3 million compared to a net loss of $3.5 million in the second quarter of 2016.

Some MSHA Employees Do Not Meet Medical Standards

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) announced immediate action to address a longstanding issue by implementing an action plan for employees who do not meet the Agency’s medical standards. Some employees have not met medical standards for several years.

Cemex Contributes $45,000 to Education Program

Cemex will donate $45,000 to the Edwards Aquifer Conservancy (EAC), an organization that supports and benefits the Edwards Aquifer. Cemex's Balcones Quarry in New Braunfels, Texas, is one of the largest limestone quarries in the United States. The donation funds the Cemex Educator Excursion Series, a series of hands-on educator workshops that promotes protection and conservation of the Edwards Aquifer and its surrounding habitat located in Bexar and Comal counties.

U.S. Asphalt Sales to Reach 27.6 Million Tons in 2021

Demand for asphalt used in paving, roofing and other products is forecast to rise 3.0 percent annually to 27.6 million tons in 2021. In terms of weight, asphalt used in paving products is projected to see the most rapid growth, reaching nearly 22 million tons in 2021.

Dodge Momentum Index Stumbles in July

The Dodge Momentum Index fell in July, dropping 3.3 percent to 135.0 (2000=100) from its revised June reading of 139.6. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.
